Biography

I am a Ph.D. Candidate studying the Latin epistolary collections of Quattrocento women Latinists (focusing on Laura Cereta, Cassandra Fedele, and Isotta Nogarola, along with a few other more minor figures). My dissertation explores stylistic and rhetorical modes used by the writers of these collections in their identity-formation and positioning as intellectuals. I take a performative-linguistic approach to these texts in studying how female intellectual self-presentation is structured through attention to both rhetoric and close philological analysis of the Latin texts.

In addition to my dissertation work, I am a proponent of active language pedagogy, and I believe Latin and Ancient Greek are most effectively taught and learned using all four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing). I have taught both Greek and Latin using active methods, including comprehensible input and TPRS methodologies. I also enjoy composing in Latin and Greek in my free time.
