  • Summary Statement of Research Interests

Angela Hurley is a third year PhD student. She is interested in Greek Tragedy and Mythography. Her current research analyzes the use of mental language in Euripides’ Bacchae.
In addition to her research, she works on modern adaptations of ancient plays into short films. She has completed one on Sophocles’ Ajax and is currently working on one for Seneca’s Medea and Euripides’ Bacchae. She has received a grant from the USC Classics department for the short on the Ajax and a grant from the SCS’ ‘Ancient Worlds, Modern Communities’ for the Medea short.
These short films will be made available online along with teaching aids for anyone teaching or interested in learning about these plays.
