About the Collection
The collection of ephemeral materials comprises a diverse array of event fliers, brochures, advertisements, announcements, concert, and theater programs, reflecting the vibrant cultural and social activities within the Los Angeles Armenian community throughout the second half of the 20th century and onward. The nucleus of the collection came from the efforts of active community members such as Armine Koundakjian and Hermineh Janoyan who over the decades had meticulously collected items that documented significant cultural events, local gatherings, and performances. Their personal archives formed the foundation of this unique collection, capturing the evolution of the city’s cultural landscape over the decades.
Today, the collection continues to expand as more materials are donated and preserved. Efforts are underway to digitize the entire collection, making it accessible to scholars, students, and the broader public through the USC Digital Library. This ongoing digital preservation not only safeguards these historical artifacts but also allows future generations to explore the rich cultural heritage of Los Angeles, fostering further research into the city’s dynamic and diverse Armenian community life.
