ANTH 450/ARCG 482: Field Research in Maya Archaeology
The Puuc Maya: Past and Present Landscapes
This field experience explores the changing conditions under which the Puuc Maya people of the northern Yucatan peninsula of Mexico have perceived, learned from, and cultivated their distinctive environment for over 3,000 years. By combining archaeological survey work and excavations with visits to archaeological sites and museums, as well as the experience of living in a Yucatec Maya town, this course encourages students to engage with the complexities of issues relating to human-environment relationships, indigenous cultural heritage, and national economic development.
Excavate the ruins of an ancient Maya palace complex. Discover new archaeological sites. Live in a beautiful and pristine rainforest preserve. Contribute to cutting edge research. Fly a drone.
