USC Dornsife alumna works to get Syrian refugees help learning English

While a senior majoring in international relations, Sofia Deak organized a group of student tutors who give the newcomers one-on-one help learning a new language.

Sofia Deak saw a need: An influx of Syrian refugees, new to Southern California, needed help learning English. So Deak, then a senior majoring in international relations at USC Dornsife, got to work, putting together a group of students to provide one-on-one tutoring to the newcomers.
