2024-25 Call for Applications

The Levan Institute for the Humanities and USC Dornsife College invite applications from tenured associate and full professors with primary appointments in Dornsife who are interested in spending a month in Paris as a Visiting Professor (professeur invité) at the EHESS during the 2024–2025 academic year. Please submit applications via email to ehesspartnership@usc.edu by 5pm on Friday, March 1, 2024. Decisions will be announced in April.

Applications will be evaluated by a USC committee and three finalists will be forwarded to the EHESS, which will make the final selection. Applications will be evaluated primarily on: detail and quality of the proposed lectures, how the research program would benefit from the stay in Paris, potential for interaction and collaboration with EHESS colleagues, and schedule.

The Visiting Professor:

  • Will be awarded a stipend of approximately $5,000 to cover airfare and lodging. The EHESS does not provide assistance with organizing housing or travel.
  • Must be in continuous residence at the EHESS for a minimum of a month. Longer stays are welcome, but the one-month minimum may not be waived or divided into shorter stays.
  • Will take part in the intellectual life of the EHESS and give four (4) 45-minute presentations to seminars or working groups during the course of the residency period. Please see https://www.ehess.fr/en/list-centers-research for a list of research centers and their ongoing seminars.

To apply, please submit a letter of interest and a CV. The letter should contain:

  • A statement of purpose, outlining the faculty member’s current research project and how it would be advanced by a stay in Paris and visiting the EHESS.
  • A brief description of each of the four presentations that the faculty member would make during the residency at the EHESS. Please describe both the topic and audience. Ideally, the faculty member will also identify specific seminars at which they could present.

Please direct any questions to ehesspartnership@usc.edu.
