Learning from the pros:

Assistant Director Michael Richards
Mr. Richards provides leadership in the areas of recruitment and outreach for the MD, MD/MBA, and MD/MPH programs at Keck School of Medicine. Prior to his current post in admissions, he worked in the Keck School’s curriculum department on examination development for the MD program. His previous professional experience includes work in human resources, talent development and organizational effectiveness. He is a passionate, lifelong learner who enjoys speaking with prospective applicants and educational organization representatives about the many opportunities that the Keck School of Medicine has to offer.

Specialist Nia Brown
Nia is a Senior Communications and Outreach Specialist with the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Services Communications team. Nia has been supporting communication and outreach efforts for the premedical community for three years. In addition to her work implementing the communication, engagement, and outrearch strategies for the MCAT and PREview exams, Nia presents at outreach events and co-creates the monthly AAMC Premed Navigator newsletter.

Manager Candice Pantor
As the Manager of Admissions Communications with the Association of American Medical Colleges, Candice Pantor develops and executes communication strategies to maintain awareness of the AMCAS application and the Fee Assistance Program. Additionally, she coordinates with the premed services teams and staff members to ensure timely and accurate communications across multiple platforms, including social media, email, and outreach events.

Director Maite Villareal Rodriguez
Maite has been working with students for 20 years in various educational contexts – including community colleges, the CSUs, and flagship state universities – and now at the Keck School of Medicine and USC! The last eight years of her career have been devoted to Medical Education, first as the Health and Science Careers Advisor and Post-Bacc Coordinator at Cal State LA, and most recently AltaMed Health Services as the Manager for the Family Medicine Residency Program. She is also serves as a Faculty Lecturer at Cal State LA, teaching Intro to Health Careers and Intro to Higher Ed. She is a certified Multi-Cultural Dialogue Facilitator and loves to gather people across differences to find connection and meaning together.

Medical Student Kelvin Alvarez
Kelvin is a third-year medical student passionate about mental health, culturally competent clinical care, community-centered programs and political advocacy in medicine. He has extensive leadership experience in the Latino Medical Student Association, American and California Academy of Family Physicians, and the National Medical Fellowships. In his free time, he loves to play video games, cook, bake and sing karaoke with his friends.

Medical Student Rebecca Braganca
Rebecca Braga de Braganca grew up in both Miami, FL and Aurora, IL before going to college at the University of Southern California where she double majored in Global Health and French. She is now at the Keck School of Medicine hoping to pursue a career in Family Medicine because it aligns with her interests in preventative care and making healthcare accessible to all.

Medical Student Matthew Cervantes
Hi Im Matt, grew up in Santa Clarita near six flags. Lot of the work I love to do is community organizing like mentoring clinics and human rights advocacy. On my free time I am a big gamer, love going on 3 hour walks with my mom around LA while grabbing some local coffee, and going on road trips to ghost towns whenever I have time to travel.

Medical Student Darryl Payton
Born and raised in Moreno Valley, California. He graduated USC ‘23 as a Human Biology major with a Healthcare Studies minor. As an advocate of pathway programs for historically underrepresented populations, he’s worked with Keck’s Bridging the Gaps / SPIDOR, Med-COR, and the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine to increase exposure to the medical field for high school and college students.

Medical Student Cristian Vega
I was born and raised in SoCal in the San Gabriel Valley. My parents are my heroes and they are from Mexico. In my spare time, I watch movies, read books, eat and travel with friends and family, and listen to music.
