Jon Boorstin is a writer and filmmaker who works in a broad range of media. His novels include The Newsboy’s Lodging House, narrated by the philosopher William James, winner the New York City Book Award for historical fiction. Boorstin made the Oscar®-nominated documentary Exploratorium and the Frank Gehry documentary Kid City; wrote the IMAX film To the Limit, winner of the Geode Award for best IMAX film; worked as a producer on All the President’s Men; wrote and, with director Alan J. Pakula, produced the thriller Dream Lover, winner of the Grand Prix at the Festival du Cinéma Fantastique in Avoriaz, France. For ABC he created a one hour comedy series about the end of the world. His widely read book on film theory, Making Movies Work, has been recently translated into Czech by the Oscar-winning film director Jan Sverak. He has taught film at USC, the AFI, and around the world, including a stint as a Fulbright professor at the National Film Institute in Pune, India.
