The USC Korean Studies Institute offers graduate summer fieldwork grants. All USC doctoral students who plan to conduct fieldwork in Korea are eligible to apply for funding. Applicants must demonstrate how the fieldwork will benefit their research project. The maximum amount of the individual award is $2,000, and the actual award amount may vary. The award will be issued as a stipend and may be subject to taxes.

The funding may be used to

  • Travel to Korea for fieldwork research or conference presentation
  • Visit archives, critical libraries or other institutions

The funding is not intended for

  • Language studies
  • Equipment or book purchases
  • Participation in networking events
  • Research assistance for a professor
  • Work that can be completed while in residence at USC

If awarded, the recipients must submit a summary of the fieldwork activities along with a list of expenses and receipts.
