  • To see all available options for JEP assignments related to a class you are taking, please click here. To see descriptions of all available volunteer opportunities, please click herePlease check back frequently as we are adding courses and assignment options to our database on a daily basis.

  • You will be able to apply for Trojan Health Volunteers (THV) until January 12th. For more information on THV, please visit the THV page!

You will be able to apply for the Pre-Law-Project (PLP) via the JEP Application during the first two weeks of the semester. It is important that you read the information on PLP’s page, though, before you do so!

You can also participate in the California Justice Corps Program if you are interested in learning more about social justice and the law fields!

  • While most JEP student staff positions have been hired for the fall 2023 semester, there is still an opportunity to apply to work as a ReadersPLUS tutor (work-study required). The application deadline is January 19th, 2024!

  • Please visit the JEP House and notify one of the staff members or send an email to jephouse@usc.edu. They can confirm whether or not your professor plans to participate.

  • We require 4 hours minimum for most JEP assignments; this is to give us flexibility to find two hours (more or less, depending on the assignment) that work for you AND for the JEP site.

If you are unable to meet the minimum required for submitting the application, please visit the JEP House and we should be able to help you.

  • Yes, you must attend training each semester and for each JEP assignment. Our procedures have changed over the last few semesters so attending training this semester is essential for all volunteers.

  • Yes, however, you must complete all requirements for any and all JEP assignments (re: service hours, reflective assignments, etc.).  In general, we discourage students from over-extending themselves with multiple JEP assignments.  This semester in particular, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to place all students who sign up, even for a single JEP assignment.

  • Yes – LiveScan is mandatory!

LiveScan is a new University Requirement for all students/staff/faculty working with programs serving minors. Due to the length of time required to process livescans, you must complete this ASAP with the assumption that you will be hired.

If you have already been cleared via an USC affiliated LiveScan session during the Spring or Fall 2023 semester, you do not need to complete another LiveScan.

  • Yes! A copy of TB clearance (dated AFTER 2/12/20) must be submitted to the JEP House/ReadersPLUS office prior to training. If you do not have a recent TB test, you must obtain one free of charge as soon as possible at the USC  Engemann Student Health Center. (note: this is a 2-day test, with one day in between):  Final dates to do so in the Trojan Conference Room are: Tue, 1/23 between 9 – 3 (administered) and Thur, 1/25 between 10 -2 (read).

  • We are aware that participating in unpaid service-learning and community engagement activities may pose challenges for low-income students. Therefore, in 2022, with the help of generous donors, JEP established the Tammara Seabrook Anderson Spirit of Service Award, which aims to eliminate financial barriers to service and increase access to JEP’s volunteer programs. For more information on the Tammara Seabrook Anderson Spirit of Service Award, please email jephouse@usc.edu (Re: Spirit of Service) or Sable Manson at smanson@usc.edu

If you have work-study, you can also apply to our paid ReadersPlus program as a math and literacy tutor here: ReadersPLUS Applications (Dealine September 1st)
