BeGirl World is a global education organization that elevates and equips Black girls through global education and travel. BeGirl World offers a study abroad scholarship program and we are excited to share that the beGirl Study Abroad Scholarship application deadline has been extended to April 23, 2021.
BeGirl World offers the following two types of study abroad scholarships for students studying abroad this summer/fall 2021:
1. All Philly – This scholarship is for one black female identifying college student who is from Philadelphia and is enrolled at an accredited Philadelphia/Metro-Philadelphia/Pennsylvania college or university.
2. All Country – This scholarship is for one black female identifying college student who is enrolled at an accredited college or university in the United States of America, Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands.

Boren Scholarships provide funding for U.S. undergraduate students to study in Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Boren Scholarships require rigorous language study and the majority of awardees spend a full academic year overseas. Applicants must be matriculated in a U.S. college or university upon application and throughout the Boren Scholarship. In exchange for funding, Boren Scholarship recipients commit to working in the federal government for at least one year after graduation.
- $8,000 for a summer program (special initiative for STEM students only; 8 weeks abroad minimum)
- $10,000 for a semester
- $20,000 for 6-12 months

The Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. Funding from private foundations and major U.S. corporations, through donations to the nonprofit US-Japan Bridging Foundation, makes it possible to award about 100 scholarships each year to assist students with the travel and living expenses they will incur while studying abroad in Japan for a semester or an academic year. Applications are accepted twice a year for Bridging Scholarships.
Bridging Scholarship recipients receive a stipend of $2,500 (for students on semester-long programs) or $4,000 (for students on academic year programs). Students studying in Japanon summer programs are not eligible to apply.

British Transatlantic Exchange Association (BUTEX) offers a 500 Pound scholarship to students who have been offered a place as a study abroad student in a UK university which is a member of BUTEX.

In order to promote the mutual understanding, cooperation and exchanges in politics, economy, culture, education and trade between China and other countries, the Chinese government has set up a series of scholarship programs to sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to study and conduct research in Chinese universities. Chinese Government Scholarship supports international students, teachers and scholars to pursue degrees at all levels (bachelor’s, master’s and PhD) or non-degree studies and to conduct research in China.

RISE stands for Research Internships in Science and Engineering. RISE Germany offers undergraduate students from North American, British and Irish universities the opportunity to complete a summer research internship at top German universities and research institutions. RISE Germany is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.

Go Overseas and Education in Ireland are offering 15 undergraduate full-tuition scholarships for students studying abroad in Ireland. The scholarship does not include accommodation, food, books, or additional provider fees. Two lucky students will also receive free round-trip airfare to Ireland, courtesy of Aer Lingus.

The Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) invests in promising students with financial need who wish to study abroad. Potential applicants who meet our eligibility requirements may participate on any international education program that meets their academic objectives.

The Garden Club of America offers 28 merit-based scholarships and fellowships in 12 areas related to conservation, ecology, horticulture, and pollinator research. In 2018, more than $308,400 was awarded to 65 scholars.

DIS Scholarship: Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need.
Diversity Scholarship: Awarded to support students from populations that are underrepresented in study abroad such as those from diverse ethnic, racial, cultural, sexual orientation, and educational backgrounds, including first-generation college students.
Pioneer Scholarship: Awarded $500 to $3,000 based on financial need, this award is available only to DIS Stockholm students enrolling in the fall 2017 semester; may be combined with above scholarships for an individual maximum of up to $8,000.
Jacob Buksti Memorial Scholarship: This merit-based award for political science, international relations, economics, or related majors looking to pursue a career in politics.

You must be receiving Pell grants to be eligible to apply for a Gilman scholarship. Preference goes to applicants with high financial need, and those applying to study in countries outside Western Europe and Australia. Awards can be as high as $5,000. During the academic year, approximately 25 recipients will be eligible to receive a $3,000 Critical Need Language Supplement for a total possible award of up to $8,000. Critical Need Languages include: Arabic (all dialects), Chinese (all dialects), Korean, and Russian.

Palantir offers scholarships to support students from underrepresented groups in STEM who are beginning careers in technology. They hope to encourage these students to pursue computer science, engineering, and technical studies and become leaders in their fields.
Scholarship recipients will be invited to visit one of our offices for a full-day workshop to learn about their work, see demos of their products, and meet Palantirians. All scholarship recipients are awarded grants of up to $10,000 to support their education.

The Pamela Harriman Foreign Service Fellowships provide funding for students interning over the summer in the U.S. Embassies in London or Paris, or the Secretary of State’s Office in Washington, D.C.

Point Foundation (Point) is the nation’s largest higher education scholarship-granting organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) students. Point’s multifaceted support of its scholarship recipients (“scholars”) extends far beyond direct financial contribution toward the cost of their education. Each scholar is paired with a mentor and participates in leadership development programs and events.

The Killam Fellowships Program provides an opportunity for exceptional undergraduate students from universities in the United States to spend either one semester or a full academic year as an exchange student in Canada. Students may participate in the program either as a direct exchange student (registering at their home university, paying their home fees, and attending the host university as an exchange visitor) or as a self-placed visiting student (registering at the host university and paying host tuition fees). Applicants interested in the direct exchange program must be registered at one of the participating American universities and be planning to visit one of the participating Canadian universities.
Annually, the Killam competition launches in September. The application must be submitted according to the internal deadline of your institution (in the case of the direct exchange), or by January 31st (in the case of the open competition). Masa Israel Grants are for Jewish young adults to come to Israel. They offer grants and/or scholarships to help make the experience more affordable, and collect information about other grants and scholarships available for long-term Israel programs from third party organizations. They provide every eligible participant a grant towards participating in a program in Israel. Grant amounts are determined by factors such as age, home country, length of program, etc. In addition, need-based scholarships are available.

The Toshizo Watanabe Endowed Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to undergraduates/graduate students for a semester or year-long study abroad program in either the United States or Japan. A generous endowment gift of $10 million from Mr. Toshizo (Tom) Watanabe to the U.S.-Japan Council makes it possible to award scholarships to students for whom study abroad would not be possible without financial support.
The application for the following academic year will be available starting early January.

ThinkSwiss is an official scholarship program managed by the Office of Science, Technology, and Higher Education at the Embassy of Switzerland in Washington, D.C. The program is funded by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) and is supported by the Embassy of Switzerland in Ottawa, Canada. The aim of the program is to promote research opportunities in Switzerland for American and Canadian students and to foster the exchange between Swiss, U.S., and Canadian universities and research institutions.

The Tortuga Study Abroad Scholarship is awarded biannually to passionate students who want to explore the world. The scholarship may be used for tuition, room and board, books, or travel. Funds will be sent directly to the winner’s study abroad program or university. In cases where this is not possible, alternative arrangements will be made.

The Turkish Coalition of America provides up to 100 scholarships per year for students of the following backgrounds: African American, Armenian American, Bosnian American, Filipino American, Hispanic American, Macedonian American, Native American. These scholarships are awarded to eligible undergraduate and graduate students who have been accepted to a language program or university study abroad program in Turkey.
Scholarships range from $500 to $2,000 per student:
- $2,000 for a semester or year at a Turkish/TRNC university
- $1,000 for summer programs lasting for more than 4 weeks at a Turkish/TNRC university
- $1,000 for Turkish language studies at a Turkish/TRNC university
- $500 for summer programs lasting up to 4 weeks sponsored by US educational institutions or Turkish/TRNC universities

Scholarships for intensive summer overseas study in the critical need foreign languages of Arabic, Bangla/Bengali, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish, and Urdu. The CLS Program provides fully-funded seven to ten-week group-based intensive language instruction and extensive cultural enrichment experiences. Students of diverse disciplines and majors are encouraged to apply.
