The EXL Lab is developing experiential learning opportunities to complement a newly proposed B.A. degree on Technology and the Transformation of Culture. Since the first human learned to manage fire, technology has provoked cultural change, while cultural ideas enable new technologies to arise. If we want to decide how new technology should shape culture, we need to understand how that relationship has worked in the past.
Students will be engaged in activities that explore the potentials and risks of emergent technologies. Financial opportunities are always pursued at first, but how can we use technology to improve the lives of people, more broadly understood?

The EXL-Lab is exploring ideas to enable USC students who were homeless or in foster care during high school to mentor students in similar circumstances currently in the community. These students have overcome daunting challenges to earn a place at USC. Their insights and support can transform the lives of others who hope to follow their lead.
