Professor Jeffrey Nugent Retires after 60 years of Advisorship, Dedication, and Research

Celebrating his long, distinguished career as a development economist, faculty and friends gathered to  honor Professor Jeffrey Nugent and his achievements. Following lunch at the USC University Club, Jeff shared some of the high points of his career including his honeymoon in Nigeria as part of a research project. Since then, he has assessed the impact of development programs and policies in all parts of the developing world. He has written over one hundred articles in refereed journals, numerous chapters in edited volumes, and edited/co-edited four books, the most recent being a volume (with Hashem Pesaran), “Explaining Growth in the Middle East.” After Jeffrey Nugent’s 60 years of distinguished research and advisorship, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and distinguished affiliates of the USC Department of Economics gathered to celebrate his achievements and listen to his closing lecture. Photos from Jeffrey Nugent’s Retirement Celebration can be found below:

Beyond his portfolio of compelling research, Jeffrey serves on the Board of Directors of several economic associations, editorial boards of several journals, and is president of the Middle East Economic Association. He has built a stunning legacy of advisorship and service. Over the past 60 years at USC, Jeffrey has mentored generations of prodigious economists within the USC PhD in Economics program and served on a great number of program- and department-shaping committees.
