Lunches can provide an incredibly important opportunity for younger mathematicians to learn how academia functions and some of its unspoken assumptions and expectations. Charlotte’s Web has always had group lunches as part of its activities. Sometimes these were as simple as going to a cafeteria on campus where it’s easy to converse informally. Other times we’ve had ’research lunches’ where one of our own graduate students or undergraduates gives a short presentation on her research over lunch.
