Archaeology is a field that offers a unique opportunity to explore the past and gain insights into the cultures and societies that have shaped our world. This major is ideal for the student who has an abiding interest in how the past informs the present and is looking for a broad interdisciplinary approach to understanding the world and its material history.
Archaeology students have the opportunity to study art history, anthropology, chemistry, classics, environmental studies, human biology, linguistics, history, spatial sciences, religion, and more!
The Archaeology & Heritage Studies B.A. major at USC provides both academic breadth and field focus. The major provides an overview of the history of the discipline, exposure to the various and evolving theoretical perspectives that inform archaeology, and hands-on experience with basic and contemporary field technologies.
Student majors are strongly encouraged to gain direct experience through participation in fieldwork and research projects. Our faculty can help place students in programs here in Los Angeles or in diverse parts of the world.
