Biography

Bena is a second-year PhD student in the Department of Anthropology. Her research is interested broadly in contemporary Ethiopian pop cultural production as a site from which to learn more about how Ethiopian youths articulate national histories and construct personal & collective futures.

Prior to beginning her PhD at USC, Bena studied anthropology and African studies at Stanford. In her free time, she enjoys reuniting with friends and family, creative writing, receiving new music recommendations, long car rides, being by water, and going to the movie theater.
