Ask Me About:

  • How to balance your interests if you are interdisciplinary?– i.e., I am majoring in Global Studies and have two minors Business and Theatre in two completely different schools.
  • What makes Global Studies stand out from other majors in Dornsife?
  • Why Global Studies over Anthropology?
  • Any favourite anthropology classes?
  • What semester abroad opportunities are available?– planning to do the REL332 Maymester to Japan!

Advice: For undergraduates considering an anthropology major or minor, I recommend exploring diverse subfields early on. USC offers a wide range of anthropology courses covering unique topics, many of which may be new to you, so do not hesitate to challenge yourself during Freshman Year. The anthropology department  fosters close student-professor discussions, therefore I advise you to engage with your professors, build an awareness of research projects and fieldwork opportunities, many of which may offer funding!

Anthropology’s interdisciplinary nature allows it to complement any field. I was lucky to combine areas that I love, majoring in Global Studies and adding a minor in Theater and a minor in Business, all which revealed valuable intersections.

A last piece of advice is that the skills you acquire from anthropology- critical thinking, cross-cultural understanding, and analytical abilities- are highly transferable across careers. All companies look for an intermediary who can bridge gaps between cultural and professional groups.

If you love questioning the norm and envisioning ways to improve current societal institutions, an anthropology major or minor is your perfect match!
