Interaxon is a local outreach group. Our mission is to teach students of underserved K-12 schools in the Los Angeles area about Neuroscience and STEM topics. We share our enthusiasm for the brain through our unique lessons and demonstrations. Each semester, we invite these students to Neurocamp, an on-campus event in which they gain a hands-on experience as scientists through lab tours, dissections, and lectures by guest speakers.

FAQ’s:
“What are the membership requirements?”
We strive to make Interaxon an organization that is uniquely flexible in its demands on time so that students may volunteer as often as their schedules may allow. From one visit to many, contributions in any form from members are welcomed. But as with any organization, we value and reward commitment. We ask that to remain active, members participate in at least one event per year and attend its accompanying meetings. The meetings this semester will be held in THH 116 from 7-8pm on Tuesdays.
“I’m not a neuroscience/science major. Can I still join?”
Of course! We are predominantly science majors who share a passion for learning about the brain, but we welcome all majors and interests. The material we teach is easy to master, and you will be armed with lesson plans and have rehearsals with experienced members. Enthusiasm is the only requirement!
“I want be more involved in Interaxon. How do I become involved in leadership activities?”
Our Executive Board elections for the school year take place in March. There are also many other options for becoming more involved. All of our E-Board meetings are open– everyone is welcome to come to voice their ideas and help out. Email us for more information!
“I can’t come to the general meetings. Can I still join or participate in Interaxon?”
Yes! We will send out sign-ups for school visits via email and we will schedule times for people attending the school visits to meet outside the general meetings and help plan the lesson for a great school visit. As for our events like Brain Awareness Week and Neurocamp, look for volunteer sign-up opportunities via email as we always need volunteers to help out the week or day of the event!
