Interaxon is a local outreach group. Our mission is to teach students of underserved K-12 schools in the Los Angeles area about Neuroscience and STEM topics. We share our enthusiasm for the brain through our unique lessons and demonstrations. Each semester, we invite these students to Neurocamp, an on-campus event in which they gain a hands-on experience as scientists through lab tours, dissections, and lectures by guest speakers.

FAQ’s:

“What are the membership requirements?”

We strive to make Interaxon an organization that is uniquely flexible in its demands on time so that students may volunteer as often as their schedules may allow. From one visit to many, contributions in any form from members are welcomed. But as with any organization, we value and reward commitment. We ask that to remain active, members participate in at least one event per year and attend its accompanying meetings. Meetings are held every Tuesday from 7-8 pm. Please email usc.interaxon@gmail.com to inquire about where meetings will be taking place this semester.

“I’m not a neuroscience/science major. Can I still join?”

Of course! We are predominantly science majors who share a passion for learning about the brain, but we welcome all majors and interests. The material we teach is easy to master, and you will be armed with lesson plans and have rehearsals with experienced members. Enthusiasm is the only requirement!

“I want be more involved in Interaxon. How do I become involved in leadership activities?”

Our Executive Board elections for the next school year always take place in the spring, usually after Neurocamp. A form will be made available to all general members as the time approaches and interviews will take place as well. We encourage you to apply and if you have any questions please feel free to reach out via email or speak to one of our E-board!

“I can’t come to the general meetings. Can I still join or participate in Interaxon?”

At least 80% attendance in general meetings is required to be an active member in USC Interaxon and participate in Neurocamp, as it is vital to preparing for Neurocamp and fair to the partner with whom you will be presenting. If this is not possible, please speak to an E-board member or email us at usc.interaxon@gmail.com to inquire about potential opportunities or ways to participate.
