The New Film Classics will canvas American and World cinema to screen essential films in a casual setting–with popcorn, naturally! Each screening will open with an introduction, then students will share art, ideas, and conversation. Each meeting is also an opportunity for students to decide on the next film to be screened. Keep up to date with New Film Classics here or on Tumblr.
All USC students are welcome! No RSVP required.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987)
Monday, November 14, 2016
5pm, AHF 410
Please join us on Monday, November 14 for a free presentation of Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987); another entry in The New Film Classics, 1950-Present TO film series. John Hughes (The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles) wrote and directed this rambunctious, heartfelt road movie. As businessman Neal Page—played with impeccable exhaustion by comic great Steve Martin—embarks on a Homeric quest home for Thanksgiving he is joined (plagued?) by a sidekick, the loveable, quirky Del Griffith—portrayed brilliantly by the late John Candy. A true madcap “it’s the journey, not the destination” homeward trek ensues, and along the way Hughes offers silly, poignant insights into friendship, loneliness, and chance. The screening will open with an introduction and conclude with a discussion, which, as always, extends to our Tumblr. And, once again, there will be plenty of popcorn and good cheer!

We will share art, ideas, and generally keep the conversation going through the club Tumblr. (Check it for promo videos, adverts, and images for all the screenings.) Each meeting is also an opportunity for you to decide on the next screening. So, scaredy cats, cool cats, and even grumpy cats are invited to join us for a fun, spooky night.
