A Printed Record for This Battle

ByLucian Frisby

What is equal
to the human body?
I know: A
wall flooded
with water, and
the wall’s bobbing
mice, now
little planks
of damage,
bobbing around
the house. Or:
One loving
bomb, with
an extended
family, and
plenty of
time. Or:
A poem, with
eighty thousand
sheets of paper,
composing an epitaph
for every redwood
in California.
Or: A city, much
smaller than
the city
that crushes
it. Or:
One thousand
bodies, but this
number may vary
between each
politician. I know:
A flower, watching
every other flower
wilting in a record
heat, and how
there are many
beautiful things
that quietly
observe objects
in their
annihilation.
