Robert Winter began life as a high school athlete and a physics major at Brown University before having a musical epiphany. Since joining the UCLA faculty Winter has written, co-written, or edited four major books on Beethoven and published a substantial number of influential articles on compositional process, performance practice, and Franz Schubert. His programs on American Public Radio covering themes from Mozart to film music have been broadcast and re-broadcast many times. Winter’s honors include a Guggenheim Fellowship and several awards for pioneering work in interactive media. He has received every major honor that UCLA can bestow on a faculty member, including the Presidential Chair in Music and Interactive Arts (1996), the Distinguished Teaching Award (2008), the Faculty Research Lectureship (2010), and the promotion (2010) to UCLA’s highest rank.
