John Powers is a contributing editor at Vogue, writing about film and politics, and critic at large for NPR’s Fresh Air with Terry Gross. After getting his PhD from Stanford University in “Modern Thought and Literature,” Powers taught at Georgetown University. In 1985, he moved to Los Angeles, where he was a film critic (until 1993) at the LA Weekly, for which he would later (2001-2005) write a weekly media/politics column. He is the author of Sore Winners (and the Rest of Us) in George Bush’s America. He and his wife, Sandi Tan, live in Pasadena.
