Andrew Nicholls has written comedy for performers and for television since 1976, including four years as Johnny Carson’s head writer on NBC’s Tonight Show, and ten years writing special material for Mickey Rooney. With longtime writing partner Darrell Vickers he has sold over 70 pilot scripts, with 20 made into series, and has written 400 episodes of children’s TV. Since 2013, Nicholls has had short fiction published in a dozen literary sites and magazines, such as McSweeneys, the Santa Monica Review, New World Writing, Cosmonauts Avenue and Black Clock. Author of Valuable Lessons, 2010, an insider’s look at the chaos of television production, his current projects include a stage musical workshopped at UC Davis in 2016, and two plays about love and logic. In Spring 2018 he’ll be teaching “Genres In Comedy” at UC Riverside Palm Desert Low-Residency MFA in Creative Writing.
