Alexis Smith is a Venice-based visual artist who divides her time between small-scale collage work and large-scale public architectural commissions. Her studio work was the subject of a retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art (1991), which traveled to the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (1992). Her commissioned projects include the terrazzo floors of the south and west lobbies of the Los Angeles Convention Center; her famed “Snake Path” at UC San Diego; “Taste,” her installation for the Restaurant at the Getty Center; and terrazzo floors for the Schottenstein Center sports arena at Ohio State University. She was a resident at the Rockefeller Study Center in Bellagio, Italy, in 1995.
