Ebony Magazine Cover
Representative Yvonne Braithwaite Burke graces the cover of Ebony in March 1974. The first African American woman from a western state to serve in Congress – and the first Congresswoman to have a baby while in office – Burke was a leading voice for diversity and representation in the 1976 Bicentennial celebrations. The USC Law School alumna advocated for inclusion at all levels, including recognition of the contributions of Black Americans to the making of the U.S.
