September 2021

ICW is honored to share that on September 3, 2021, the governing board of the Sierra Nevada Conservancy (SNC) voted to award $282,380 to ICW for a Sierra-Sequoia Burn Cooperative Prescribed Fire Training Exchange (TREX).

Jared Aldern, Lead Researcher on the West on Fire, is a founding member of the Sierra Sequoia Burn Cooperative (SSBC), comprised of Native American tribes, private landowners, and other fire practitioners in Fresno and Madera counties.

This grant will support prescribed and cultural burns on 115 acres across three sections of land as well as training exchanges, equipment for tribal crews to move forward once the grant period ends, and an oral history project associated with the work.

ICW thanks SNC project lead Sarah Campe and all those who are partnering on this collective work.
