Jorge Osuna
From an early age Jorge Osuna had an interest in learning, science, and helping others. As he was completing his final years of high school, he volunteered and participated in internships at various Hospitals within the vicinity he grew up, including St. Francis Medical Hospital, Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital and Kaiser Permanente.
Jorge obtained a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from California State University of Los Angeles where his undergrad research focused on synthesizing and characterizing macrocycles that change confirmation dependent on the environment with potential applications to drug delivery. He continued his education in medicinal organic chemistry by obtaining a Ph.D in Chemistry from the University of Southern California with Professor Charles E. McKenna as advisor. There, he worked on synthesizing deoxynucleotide analog Probes for Studying the Conformation and Structure of a DNA repair enzyme named DNA Polymerase Beta.
Upon graduating with his doctorate degree from USC, Jorge was hired as a post-doctoral fellow at Gilead Sciences aseptic manufacturing site located in San Dimas within the department of Technical Services. He has been at Gilead for over 10 years, currently within the role of Associate Director of Technical Services where he and his team provide analytical, regulatory, compliance, and process support to troubleshoot problems with the goal of continuing delivering life saving quality products from the site.
