Nadia A. Mian

Nadia A. Mian is Senior Program Director of the Ralph W. Voorhees Center for Civic Engagement and a Lecturer at the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University. She holds a Ph.D. from The New School and a Master’s in Environmental Studies, with a specialization in urban planning, from York University in Toronto, Canada. Her interdisciplinary research lies at the intersection of community development and congregational studies. She is the principal investigator of the Affordable Housing and Shelter on Faith Land database, which catalogues affordable housing and shelters built on faith-owned land over the past decade across the country. Most recently, she was a Research Fellow at Villanova University, where she studied Seattle’s density bonus for faith-based affordable housing. She has published her work in The Conversation, Shelterforce, and Planning Magazine. Nadia’s other research interests include placemaking, historic preservation, and environmental sustainability. Passionate about urban planning and community development, she is a member of the Environmental Commission in Hanover Township, New Jersey, and serves on the Board of Directors for The Mark Cares, a non-profit organization in Montclair, New Jersey.
