Payam is interested in understanding how the brain makes decisions, learns, draws conclusions, and makes generalizations. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and the Neuroscience Program at USC. Prior to that, he was a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Princeton Neuroscience Institute, Princeton University, where he worked with Nathaniel Daw (2018–2022). He received his PhD at the Donders Institute, Radboud University, with Roshan Cools and Ivan Toni (2011–2016). He has received his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in control engineering from the University of Tehran.
