Position Overview: The USC Dornsife Institute of Armenian Studies is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student worker to assist with translating oral history interviews from Eastern and/or Western Armenian into English. This role is crucial for making the interviews accessible to a broader audience and preserving the rich cultural and historical narratives of the global Armenian community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translate oral history interviews from Eastern and/or Western Armenian into English.
- Ensure the preservation of the original meaning, tone, and context of the interviews.
- Collaborate with project supervisors to ensure translations meet quality and accuracy standards.
- Assist in reviewing and editing translations as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect the sensitive nature of the oral histories.
- Participate in regular team meetings to discuss progress and address any translation challenges.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Eastern and/or Western Armenian.
- Strong command of the English language, with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality translations.
- Interest in Armenian history, culture, and oral history projects is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Hours: Minimum 6 hours a week in minimum 3-hour blocks. Maximum 15 hours a week.
Work Hours: 10 am to 4 pm in person at DMC 351, with the occasional need for additional hours during Institute events, lectures, book talks, conferences, etc.
Compensation: Hourly wage commensurate with experience and USC student worker rates.

This role involves creating, editing, and proofreading content for the Institute’s newsletters, website, printed materials, and social media platforms. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent writing skills, and an interest in Armenian studies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Write and develop original content for the Institute’s website, newsletters, event summaries, research highlights, and other relevant topics.
- Edit and proofread website content to ensure clarity, grammatical accuracy, and consistency with the Institute’s tone and style.
- Collaborate with the Institute’s staff to update and maintain the website’s content, ensuring it is current and relevant.
- Conduct research to support content development, including gathering information on Armenian studies, history, and culture.
- Ensure that all website content is accessible and appropriate for a diverse audience.
- Assist in the organization and presentation of content to enhance user experience and engagement.
Qualifications:
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Experience with content creation and an understanding of web content best practices.
- Familiarity with Armenian history and culture, OR an interest in learning more about these topics.
- Basic knowledge of web content management systems (e.g., WordPress) is a plus.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with a diverse team.

This role is essential for preserving and documenting the oral histories of individuals within the Armenian community, contributing to the Institute’s broader mission to study and promote Armenian voices/stories/narratives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately transcribe oral history interviews, converting spoken English into written text, with occasional spoken Armenian (Eastern or Western dialects).
- Ensure transcriptions are precise, capturing the exact wording, tone, and context of the interviews.
- Format transcriptions according to project guidelines and standards.
- Review and edit transcripts for accuracy, consistency, and clarity.
- Collaborate with project supervisors to address any challenges in the transcription process.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive content with care and respect.
- Assist in organizing and archiving transcribed interviews for future reference and research.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Eastern and Western Armenian standards.

This role is essential for making the Institute’s archives accessible and searchable via USC Digital Libraries, contributing to the Institute’s broader mission to study and promote Armenian voices/stories/narratives.
Student workers will be trained in specific tasks but must have an interest in Armenian diaspora history and culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review oral history interview transcripts and identify keywords and key themes.
- Format indexing terms into USC Digital Library ingestion standards.
- Organize Institute of Armenian Studies controlled vocabulary.
- Data entry and digital archival inventory organization.
- Assisting in various office tasks pertaining to oral histories, scanning, digitization, and wider Institute initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with either Eastern and/or Western Armenian standards.
- Attention to detail.
- Familiarity or interest in Armenian history and culture.
- Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and meet project deadlines.

- Collaborate with the Institute’s staff to update and maintain the visual aspects of the website, ensuring that it is engaging and visually consistent.
- Create social media graphics and other digital assets to enhance online presence and engagement.
- Support the organization and presentation of visual content to improve user experience and interaction.
- Ensure that all visual content is accessible and appropriate for a diverse audience.
Qualifications:
- Strong graphic design skills with proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
- Creativity and a keen eye for aesthetics, layout, and typography.
- Basic knowledge of web content management systems (e.g., WordPress) is a plus.
