Patent Pending

“In making this piece, my main goal was to turn the inorganic into an organic specimen. Like animals or plants, electronics—and even clothes to an extent—are highly complex systems that require all parts to be in proper order to function. I transformed two commodities from the world of consumerism into one scientific object, studied not for its market price but for its intricate structure. I included the ‘patent pending’ zipper to engender in viewers both ideas about design and intellectual property and to open a conversation about how closely tied innovation and the market have become.”
