The Tooth Fairy
“‘The Tooth Fairy’ is a stop-motion animation that marks yet another rail in the winding tracks of my derailed mind-train. I have always had a horrid fascination with teeth, whether from strangers’ mouths or my own, and this has carried on as a strong theme in many of my works. Teeth operate as a direct look into one’s genetic makeup, environmental background, and self-care. My oral hygiene is often the first to go when my mental state begins to decay. The fear of the dentist is one of the most common fears in the US. Why is this? Where does the horror of teeth come from, and what primal instincts do these simple organic functions evoke? With these companion pieces, my insights to teeth and their role in my own life begin to flesh out into an entirely new being of their own.”
