Failure to Adjust (In Five Parts)

ByZach Hrenko
Book I: The Story of (mis)Creation

The seraphim have just come down from their holy thrones of stardust to inform me that I got a D on my last essay.
You see, I had some good ideas floating around in the clouds above my head, but I was pushed to the deadline and…

well, my mom and dad had a fight,
so I couldn’t really focus.

he asked her why she never really pursued her career

she stuck a fork in his shoulder

Verse 2: Earthly Justification for Heavenly Wrongs

It’s nobody’s fault, really.

Maybe it’s everybody’s fault.

It’s gotta be somebody’s fault.

It’s gotta be some…

bodies cling to that which they can understand,

namely, mud.

When father was just a boy he rolled around in the dirt.

He roughhoused with the other neighborhood kids.

He dragged mud into the house.

Mud. All over the carpet.

He made his mother very mad.

He was a bully on the playground.

He didn’t bully younger kids.

He bullied mother earth.

He dug his paws into the dirt and ripped up flowers for

     fun.

One day a girl saw him hurting the flowers, and she cried.

She was very pretty.

He thought she was prettier when she wasn’t crying.

So he stopped ripping up flowers.

He stopped playing in the dirt.

He wanted to keep her looking pretty.

He didn’t play in the dirt again for decades.

Movement 3: The root causes of the unfavorable conditions, having been explored, are explained to those whom they may concern, accompanied by a faint piccolo.

Sorry professor. I had a lot going on.

iv. Discipline.

Please don’t disrespect me.

Please don’t disrespect my people.

It feels like that’s what’s goin on.

I’d like you to stop, ok, STOP.

Understand?

If you misunderstand me and misunderstand what I’m

     sayin right now,

then there might be a little misunderstandins between us

if you know what I’m sayin right now.
