I will mix the spices

that came tucked into the pockets of my genes.

I will perfume the house

with scents of silk

and sandalwood and Mediterranean coastlines.

 

I will pull two worlds together over my dinner table.

They will shake hands;

they will share food.

And they will see that their waters touch.

Sarina Kapai is a junior at USC studying Electrical Engineering and Spanish. She writes to avoid doing her other work and to make sense of things she doesn’t understand (there are many). In her free time, Sarina enjoys building planes, laughing, painting, and Taekwondo.
