Mrs. Milligan Turner enjoyed her time at USC and wanted to give back to students who are interested in research in human biology. This fellowship is given to students who are sophomore, junior or continuing senior to complete a summer research project. This year’s recipient of the Milligan Fellowship is: Lauren Teubner. Check out past recipients’ projects here.

Dornsife Gold Family Graduate Fellowship: Katie Beachem is honored to be the Summer 2021 recipient of the USC Dornsife Gold Family Graduate Fellowship. Beachem’s doctoral research aims to advance the understanding of communication in great apes by using an integrated approach to examine multimodal versus unimodal signal production in one of our closest living great ape relatives, the bonobo (Pan paniscus). This project represents the first of its kind as it will examine multimodal signaling trajectories across all three signaling modalities; namely, vocal, gestural and facial. Results from this work will advance our understanding of the origins of human language by examining how multimodal communication rates develop in one of our closest living relatives.
