Imagine a future where physical, mental and social wellbeing are virtually guaranteed.

This future requires more than the next big leap in biomedicine and medical technology. We must also gain a more complete understanding of the environmental and socioeconomic factors that contribute significantly to human health.

USC Dornsife in Action

At USC Dornsife, we don’t make hard distinctions between art and science. We explore the entire range of complexities that affect human health. Together with collaborators across the university, our experts explore everything from the fundamental molecular mechanisms underpinning biology to the ways that culture and traditions influence therapeutics.

Findings by scientists at USC Dornsife using cryogenic electron microscopy could lead to answers for neurological disorders from anxiety to schizophrenia and Parkinson’s disease to autism spectrum disorder.

From cradle to grave, touch brings us comfort, pleasure and sometimes pain, reminding us of our countless connections to the world and to humanity — including our own.

At USC Dornsife, researchers aim to stop the progression of debilitating conditions, send them into remission, and prevent them from happening to begin with. We do this not just to create a world free of disease and infirmity but to unlock the entirety of human potential.

We invite you to join us in realizing this vision.

Communities of Support

Learning with the BUGS

Society constantly needs new scientists who do innovative research to help propel forward health care and other fields. BUGS shows students how to get there.

Neeti Dang ’00 and Sandeep Dang BS ’97, MD ’01 Neeti Dang and her husband Sandeep, a Dornsife alumnus, hadn’t been on campus for years when they decided to take a tour to reacquaint themselves. After leaving the Michelson Center, where BUGS is housed, Neeti remembers thinking it was “mind-boggling — the fact that so much effort and thought went into building an intentional space for research.”

Scientific Research Improves Lives

Supporting education is the best way to make the world a better place.

Fran Peskoff ’64 and Art Peskoff Because they knew the power of research to shape a young scientist’s career trajectory, Fran Peskoff and her husband Art were looking to support an undergraduate science program. “We want these students to become proficient in scientific methods so they can hit the ground running when they go to work in their chosen fields,” Fran said.

    How You Can Help

At USC Dornsife, researchers aim to stop the progression of debilitating conditions, send them into remission, and prevent them from happening to begin with. We do this not just to create a world free of disease and infirmity but to unlock the entirety of human potential. Our undergraduate and graduate students have the opportunity to take part in this work. Any size gift will help us come closer to our goal.

    • USC Dornsife faculty are tackling some of the most pressing issues in human health. Their research spans early cancer detection using novel liquid biopsy methods, health and social inequities in diverse societies and urban communities, metabolic neuroscience, understanding how the human brain creates social and emotion well-being, preventing Alzheimer’s and cognitive disease, among many others.

    • Scholarships for USC Dornsife undergraduates support the next generation of Trojans. Donors help make a USC Dornsife education possible, providing students an undergraduate experience that prepares them to be critical thinkers. USC Dornsife graduates are ready for future leadership roles and equipped with the skills needed to bring about positive change in the world.

    • Fund a research opportunity for a student working on his/her own research project with the guidance from a faculty mentor or alongside a faculty member working on an issue related to human health.

    • Provide funding to help USC Dornsife become a leader in structural biology. With a cluster hire of faculty, USC Dornsife can expand on the current structural biologist research faculty to take full advantage of the two CRYO-EM instruments. These revolutionary instruments provide researchers with an atomic-level 3-D picture that can help researchers create better treatment and cures for disease.

    • Endowed positions make it possible for us to attract, retain and honor the best scholars, ensuring our academic programs remain excellent for generations to come.  While the research, scholarship and teaching of the chairholder revolutionizes the way we look at a field of study today, the existence of the chair itself stands as a lasting tribute to the vision of the donor.

    • Research at USC Dornsife is greatly benefitted by postdoctoral scholars. These individuals have received their doctoral degree and have the knowledge and training to help advance faculty research.

    • Centers at USC Dornsife provide a hub for researchers from different disciplines to collaborate on a specific issue. These Centers accelerate research and develop and train a next generation of multidisciplinary scientists. USC Dornsife can make significant impact to human health with new and existing centers focusing on pain research, social and economic disparities, among others.
