Director of Overseas Studies

Peter has been with the Office of Overseas Studies for over 20 years and has been involved in sending many thousands of students on yearlong, semester, and summer study abroad experiences as well as bringing exchange students to USC for a semester or year of study. He has helped grow the number of semester abroad programs from 28 to 59 and during the Covid pandemic added virtual international internships to the offerings. Peter oversees program development and review, curricular integration, pre-departure orientation, protocols for health and safety abroad, USC-run programs in Madrid and Paris, and budgeting and planning. He is also the Study Abroad Advisor for programs in Africa, the Middle East, China, and India.

Peter joined USC after career stints in Pacific Rim freight logistics and teaching English as a second or foreign language. He has lived in Colombia, Germany, Taiwan, and Thailand. He has a master’s degree in applied linguistics from UCLA, where he focused on second language acquisition, and a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University, where he studied Chinese, Asian studies, and linguistics.
