Communications Intern for EAC of West Marin
Will G., Spring 2024
Hi, I am Will, a junior majoring in environmental studies with a minor in economics. Over the past semester, I worked as a communications intern for the Environmental Action Committee of West Marin (EAC). This environmental non-profit was created in 1971 in Point Reyes California to protect West Marin’s beautiful habitats through education advocacy and engagement. Since then, EAC has worked at the forefront of countless environmental initiatives including the current Cleaner California Coast Initiative.
In my role as a communications intern at EAC, I primarily work to create social media content for the non-profits Instagram, X, and Facebook, as well as assisting my supervisor with daily operations and reports. When creating the content for our social media platforms, I typically start by reading and summarizing articles that my supervisor finds to be relevant and educational. I then take the information and curate an informational caption that will grab the reader’s attention and educate them on the topic at hand. Finally, I add a captivating carousel of photos, and it is ready to post.
Working as a communications intern has been a remarkable experience. In this position, I’ve learned essential skills that will be applicable to future opportunities as well as gained insight into a career field I am interested in. I truly recommend working at EAC West Marin because the work you are doing will not only help you grow professionally but it will also have a positive impact on the environment.
