“Through commonality, progress. Through difference, growth”

    Mission

Responsive to the charge of USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts & Sciences to expand and sustain thriving scholarly and professional environments throughout the college, this office delivers timely, impactful, multifaceted, and empathetic support to our colleagues and students in the advancement of goals related to building transformative people-first work and learning systems. To this end, we ask ourselves three questions daily:

    1) What unmet need lies behind a complaint, crisis, or obstacle?

    2) How can we better understand the unmet need?

    3) Within our given options for remediation, how might we remove the impediment and meet the underlying need?

Most importantly, we apply enlightened action, based on what we have discovered, to achieve the most satisfactory and affirming outcomes for all involved.

    Vision

We set the vision of this office upon a time when the need for such offices has passed–not according to fiat but according to abundant data. To draw that day nearer, we aim to become so effective at championing transformative people-first work and learning systems, they become indistinguishable from the day-to-day operations of USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts & Sciences; intrinsic to every plan, project, and program; and characteristic of each institutional and interpersonal exchange. Until these signs of ultimate success announce the completion of our assignment, we fulfill our mission with humility, determination, creativity, and joy.

    Values

The Office of Community Engagement finds great resonance with the six unifying values of the USC Culture Journey. The six values elevate our university’s highest aspirations as a scholarly and professional community.

The Dornsife Office of Community Engagement stands in solidarity with our colleagues and students across the campus who have embraced the Culture Journey values because of their direct relevance to our daily work
