This session is designed to introduce interested practitioners to the field of clinical forensic psychology. Forensic psychology is the intersection of psychology and the legal system, where professionals apply psychological principles to understand criminal behavior, assist in legal proceedings, and evaluate mental health in various legal contexts. Working with sex offenders specifically involves assessing risk factors, understanding the psychological profiles, and providing therapy or rehabilitation to reduce recidivism. Forensic psychologists in this field may conduct evaluations for sentencing and parole, as well as offer treatment programs aimed at addressing deviant sexual behavior, helping offenders understand the root causes of their actions, and promoting behavioral change. This session will provide a broad overview of forensic psychology in general and conducting sex offender treatment specifically.
