Biography

Weronika Malek is a first-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Art History and an enrollee in the Visual Studies Graduate Certificate. She received her M.A. in Humanities from the University of Chicago and holds a B.F.A. with an emphasis in art history and painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2018-2019 she was a recipient of FLAS Fellowship in Russian language and Eastern European area studies within art history. Her research focuses on nineteenth and twentieth-century European art, especially the place of figuration within modernism, and the depictions of class, gender, and social issues in figurative painting. She has held internships at the Smart Museum of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago.  [wmalek@usc.edu]
