Biography

Katherine Hammitt is a PhD candidate of Comparative Studies in Literature and Culture, specializing in French and Francophone Studies. Her dissertation project, Beyond the Sea that Separates: Francophone Voices of Oceania, engages with women writers from Ma’ohi Nui/French Polynesia and Kanaky/New Caledonia. At USC, she has taught in the Departments of French and Italian, History, and Comparative Literature and has served as lectrice at the Université Sorbonne-Nouvelle (Paris 3) in Paris. Her research interests include Francophone literature, postcolonial theory, translation studies, transpacific studies, and ecocriticism.
