The princes enjoy the pleasures and privileges of court life, but they are less formal than the mandarins. The seventh prince comes from the far northern area of Yen Bai and is addicted to opium, so as he smokes his body often sways erratically. The tenth prince loves luxury, travel and poetry, comes from the central region of Nghe An, and is associated with the Earth Palace. He is believed to be very efficacious for those who seek prosperity and wealth. Audience members often come to the golden prince to ask for success in a business endeavor or even gambling on the lottery. They may bring crisp dollar bills arranged as tree or flower, since a pleasing appearance may make the prince more responsive to their request.
