Teaching

At its best, an education in political science and international affairs prepares students to confront difficult global challenges, including political polarization and economic inequality. My teaching emphasizes the careful evaluation of evidence and the use of data to move beyond political echo chambers. I also encourage students to bring an ethnographic sensibility to the study of political institutions by asking how those institutions operate in practice and whose interests they serve.

Because inequalities are often reproduced within higher education, I aim to create an inclusive and compassionate classroom in which students from different backgrounds can participate fully, develop confidence in their analytical abilities, and learn from one another.
