Dion Dickman of biological sciences is studying the way nerve cells maintain normal levels of communication, giving insight into how neuropsychiatric diseases arise — and might be treated.

Thanks to USC Dornsife’s Summer Undergraduate Research Fund (SURF), five undergraduates expand their knowledge of neuroscience and genetics while working over the summer in the laboratory of Dion Dickman of biological sciences.

Christoph Haselwandter of physics and astronomy, and Dion Dickman of neuroscience are recognized by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation as researchers who push boundaries.

A recipient of a 2012 New Scholar Award in Aging from the Ellison Medical Foundation, USC Dornsife’s Dion Dickman will investigate the genetics and mechanisms behind nervous system stability during the aging process.
