USC Dornsife Receives Regional CASE Kudos

The USC Dornsife Office of Communication, led by Associate Dean for Communications Emily Cavalcanti, won five regional 2014 Awards of Excellence from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

USC Dornsife Magazine received a silver award for college and university general interest magazines (circulation: 30,000 to 74,999). With oversight from Cavalcanti, Editorial Director Pamela Johnson and Art Director Dan Knapp, the magazine was designed by in-house graphic designer Letty Avila and included articles by Johnson, Staff Writer Susan Bell, Senior Communication Specialist Michelle Boston, and Web Editor and Writer Laura Paisley. The magazine’s augmented reality feature also incorporated videos by Director of Video Production Mira Zimet and its distribution was coordinated by Office Manager Letitia Franklin.

Led by Johnson, the editorial team also won a silver for outstanding news writing, which included “A Nobel Victory,” “Edge Effect,” “Lord of the Flies,” “L.A. Has a Heart,” and “Guardian Angel,” written by Johnson, Bell, Boston and Paisley.

The USC Wrigley Institute Brochure was recognized with a silver for individual fundraising publication and a bronze for excellence in design (multi-page publications/folders). The brochure, whose production was overseen by Cavalcanti and the institute’s director Roberta Marinelli, was designed by Pentagram with original photography by Corey Arnold.

The USC Dornsife Initiative Video garnered a bronze in fundraising videos. Zimet oversaw the project, which was produced by c2.K Communications.

The USC Dornsife Office of Advancement also won a silver award for their alumni relations program USC Dornsife Gateway Internship in the volunteer engagement and leadership category. The entry was supported in part by a video produced by Zimet and an article prepared by Bell.

USC Dornsife competed in CASE’s District VII, which includes institutions in Arizona, California, Guam, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah.

Since 2009, the USC Dornsife Office of Communication has earned a total of 26 CASE Awards of Excellence at the district level and two awards from the national CASE organization. The team has also received eight accolades from the University and College Designers Association in the past two years.
