KSI Undergraduate Fellows Program

The KSI Undergraduate Fellows Program selects outstanding USC students who are interested in conducting research about Korea or Korean-American issues, writing a research paper and gaining experience presenting at academic conferences. Selected students participate in monthly research workshops during the fall and spring semesters, take part in a mini-conference just for USC students and present their papers at the annual USC-Michigan Korean Studies Undergraduate Exchange in spring (to be hosted by USC in 2025).

Get close academic mentoring.
Produce a 15-20 page research paper on any Korea-related or Korean-American research topic.
Participate in a USC mini-research conference.
Participate in the annual USC-Michigan Korean Studies Exchange.
Learn about fellowship and publishing opportunities.

Past Fellows have been recipients of the Critical Language, Boren and Schaefer Fellowships while at USC.
Graduates have received the Marshall, Schwarzman, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and Fulbright Fellowships.
Many have used their KSI research papers as foundations for either a capstone paper or an honors thesis.

Application opens every spring and before each fall semester.
Submit your application
You must be in good academic standing (3.0 and above GPA), able to attend a monthly workshop (Tues. from 6:00-7:00 PM at USC), and participate in our conferences.
Residency is required to participate in this program.
Your application must include:
- Your resume with major, USC e-mail, and
  expected date of graduation.
- Short (one page maximum) cover letter that explains your interest in Korea and Korean studies, why you want to be a KSI Fellow, and the research paper you are considering.
