USC doctoral students in all disciplines whose research pertains to Korea (or involves Korea as part of a larger comparative or interdisciplinary research) are eligible to apply for summer fieldwork funding from the Korean Studies Institute.

The USC Korean Studies Institute is now accepting proposals for graduate summer fieldwork grant. All USC doctoral students who plan to conduct fieldwork in Korea are eligible to apply for funding. Applicants must demonstrate how the fieldwork will benefit their research project. The maximum amount of the individual award is $2,000, and the actual award amount may vary. The award will be issued as a stipend and may be subject to taxes.
The funding may be used to
- Travel to Korea
- Visit archives, critical libraries or other institutions
The funding is not intended for
- Language studies
- Participation in networking events or conferences
- Equipment or book purchases
- Research assistance for a professor
- Work that can be completed while in residence at USC
If awarded, the recipients must submit a summary of the fieldwork activities along with a list of expenses and receipts.
In order to be considered, applicants must submit a cover letter, a project summary that includes a budget, a CV and a reference letter from a faculty member to ksi@usc.edu by April 10th, 2024.
