Michael Campbell joins Human and Evolutionary Biology! We are delighted to introduce to our students, staff, and faculty, as well as the university community, Michael Campbell, a new Assistant Professor in Human and Evolutionary Biology. Dr. Campbell completed his undergraduate studies in Biological Anthropology at the University of Toronto, Canada, and his Master’s degree in Human Biology at the University of Oxford, England. He obtained his PhD in the area of Human Evolutionary Genetics from Columbia University and completed his post-doctoral training in Genetics at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Campbell comes to USC from Howard University where he was an Assistant Professor in Biology. Dr. Campbell’s research interests lie at the intersection of genomic variation, evolution, and the emergence of human traits. His areas of focus include human population history, the genomic basis of complex disease and normal variable traits, and computational methods development. Dr. Campbell is passionate about undergraduate mentoring as well as diversity and inclusion in STEM. Join me in welcoming Michael Campbell to HEB!


Scott Kanoski was awarded a four-year research grant (R01) from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. This project will continue his research investigating the neural systems and gut-to-brain pathways that regulate eating behavior and energy balance.
